Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce left New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium Sunday happy, as did his rumored girlfriend, singer Taylor Swift, after his team eked out a victory against the New York Jets. Jets fans, and many who wagered prop bets on Kelce, had a rougher time.
Online betting platforms DraftKings (NASDAQ:DKNG) and FanDuel (DUEL) said significantly more customers wagered prop bets involving the star player than in the season’s earlier weeks.
At DraftKings (DKNG), bettors there wagered twice as much money on Kelce bets for Sunday’s matchup than the previous two weeks combined, Forbes reported.
A popular prop bet on DraftKings (DKNG) was for Kelce to score a touchdown and catch a pass for at least 22 yards. The 22-yard gain was a nod to Swift’s 2012 hit song “22.” Bettors who took this bet were out of luck as Kelce didn’t score a touchdown nor have a reception of 22 yards or more.
FanDuel (DUEL) told the magazine it saw a 149% increase in bets involving Kelce scoring touchdowns. It added that 14% of all money spent Sunday on the Chiefs-Jets game were on Kelce props.
