Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) would consider selling an interest in Helibras to a potential strategic partner, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing the head of the Brazilian helicopter maker.
European plane maker Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) in January acquired full ownership in Helibras with its purchase of the remaining 15.5% interest controlled by Brazilian state Minas Gerais for 95 million reais ($19.4 million).
Alberto Duek, who became president of Helibras in July, told Reuters that Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) hadn’t originally planned to fully acquire the helicopter maker. Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) (OTCPK:EADSF) decided to do so to prevent another company from buying the minority stake from the state as part of it a privatization plan.
Helibras is the only helicopter manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere.
