Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) said it is launching WhatsApp Channels in over 150 countries.
The tech giant noted that it is allowing thousands of organizations, sports teams, artists, and thought leaders who people can follow, right within WhatsApp.
The move comes after an initial start in 10 countries.
Meta added that Channels are separate from the chats, and who one chooses to follow is not visible to other followers. The company would also protect the personal information of both admins and followers.
Among the updates are enhanced directory, wherein one can now find channels to follow that are automatically filtered based on their country. Users can also view channels that are new, most active, and popular based on number of followers.
Soon, admins will also be able to make changes to their updates for up to 30 days, when the company automatically deletes them from its servers, according to Meta.
In addition, users can react using emojis and whenever a user forwards an update to chats or groups it will include a link back to the channel, the company added.
