Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) and Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) are among the companies that will attend Congressional hearings next week on artificial intelligence, as U.S. lawmakers seek to better understand the perils and promise of the technology.
“Top industry executives and leading experts will help us shape legislation to protect against AI harms,” Senator Richard Blumenthal, (Conn.-D) said on Friday, according to Reuters.
The news outlet added that Microsoft (MSFT) President Brad Smith and Nvidia (NVDA) chief scientist William Daly would attend the hearing led by Sen. Blumenthal, who s the chair of the Senate Judiciary committee.
Another hearing, led by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, will also occur next week.
It was previously reported that Meta Platforms (META) CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) CEO Sundar Pichai and Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang would attend this hearing.
A third hearing will be held on Thursday by the House Oversight Committee to discuss risks of the government and federal agencies adopting AI and the requisite safeguards needed to do so.
Attendees include White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Arati Prabhaker and the Pentagon’s chief digital and AI intelligence officer, Craig Martell, Reuters added.
A fourth and final hearing will be held by the Senate Commerce subcommittee to discuss transparency in AI, with representatives from BSA/The Software Alliance and the Information Technology Industry Council in attendance.
